Interested in helping to restore the BWCA Powwow Trail for hikers and backpackers like you? This one hour workshop will make you familiar with wilderness trail clearing topics: cutting tree falls safely, trail clearing standards, participant and team expectations, proper clothing and gear for the trip, goals, food and itinerary. The workshop is required for volunteers on October 15 day trip to clean up the first several miles of the Powwow Trail. Even if you participated in past trail clearing trips, please attend to refresh your skills. Not going on this trip? Anyone can attend!

We will cover gear check lists and trip logistics for about an hour. We'll check your pack for comfort and essential gear in preparation for our September 22-26th canoe and hike on the Powwow trail. We will then hike Minnehaha Falls River gorge trail and surroundings. The hike will last about an hour, and will be mostly dirt single track trails, with some mud expected.

This is the required Meet & Greet hike for the May. 26-30, 2022 Powwow Trail spring clearing crew #12, led by Mark Jurmu and Susan Pollock. The hike will last just over an hour, and will be 1/2 wide gravel trail, and 1/2 single track through the woods trails. After the hike we will cover gear check lists and trip logistics for about an hour. We'll check your pack for comfort and essential gear in preparation for our May 26th - 30th adventure on the Powwow trail.

Since these two trips have so many members in common, we will be combining trips #1 and #5 for our required practice hike and gear check at Afton State Park. Bring mostly everything that you will be bringing on your trip in the pack that you will be carrying for the trip, along with some snacks and at least a liter of water. After we get the groups together and meet and greet, we will be taking a hike of a few miles or so along the river at Afton.

This event is the crew hike and meeting for the September 19-23, 2019 canoe-in to Powwow Trail west side. Others are welcome to join us to learn more about volunteering for wilderness trails with BWAC and for an evening walk along the Mississippi River.
