New to Backpackings and want to join an experienced group? Join crew leaders Lucas and Lynn on this 3 day trail clearing trip. Help us clear the trail junction section of the Powwow Trail to make it easier for other crews to take on the interior sections.
*** Contact Lynn and Lucas through Meet before signing up for this trip ***
Thursday evening we'll meet and carpool from the Twin Cities to the Powwow trailhead. We'll check out our destination campsite at Isabella River approximately 1 mile in. If that campsite is not available, we'll set up camp at the trailhead for the first evening. Be sure to have headlamps as we'll be hiking and setting up in the dark.
Friday morning after breakfast and our safety and tools training, we'll head to the trail fork - the “Wye” and get right to work clearing both trails north and west. If we need to, we'll break camp and set up at the campsite first.
Saturday will be another day of clearing, and Sunday morning we will break camp, perhaps work for an hour or two, then hike out and head for home.
Cost: $25 Meetup registration, bring all your food needed on trail, gas round trip for your vehicle or shared vehicle. NOTE: Due to Covid-19 restrictions we'll be limited to 2 persons per vehicle and a maximum of 6 people per crew.
We will schedule a local meet-and-greet social distancing hike and gear check when this event is filled.
All volunteers must read and sign the BWAC participant liability form, BWAC health & medical self-disclosure form, BWAC policy for trips under covid-19, and the USFS volunteer agreement group signature form. Visit www.BoundaryWatersTrails.org to review required forms and for a suggested gear list.
We welcome new volunteers; no experience required!
Volunteers are bringing back the Powwow Trail—you can be part of the success story. The Boundary Waters Advisory Committee (BWAC) is a 100% volunteer-run Minnesota nonprofit that has been restoring trails in Minnesota's BWCAW since 2002.
