Experience the Powwow trail in the fall and observe how the forest is recoveing from a devestating fire in 2011.
We will meet early on Thursday morning to car pool to the trailhead. We will hike in and set up base camp going West from the wye. Base camp location will be somewhat dependent on the progress that previous crews make, but be prepared for up to an 8 mile hike in by backpack.
We will spend Friday and Saturday clearing the trail to proper standards. We will pack up and hike out Sunday morning and be back to the cities in the evening.
We will schedule a meet-and-greet, gear check, social distancing hike when this event is filled.
BEFORE YOUR RSVP: Meetup message John or Rick with your phone number and a good time to call. We'll determine if the trip is a good match and discuss steps to get ready for the trail. All volunteers must read and sign the BWAC participant liability form, BWAC health & medical self-disclosure form, BWAC policy for trips under covid-19, and the USFS volunteer agreement group signature form. Visit www.BoundaryWatersTrails.org to review required forms and for a suggested gear list.
Social Distancing: We will be practicing proper social distancing during this trip. We have limited the group size to 6 to help accomadate this and there will be no more than two unrealated people in vehicles carpooling to the trailhead.
Costs: The $25 trip registration fee, payable through Meetup, offsets tool and administrative costs and includes a Mckenzie map of the Powwow Trail . Additional costs will be your trip food, a group post trip meal, and shared gas $ for those not driving. Our trail partner, the U.S. Forest Service, provides the wilderness permit for BWAC volunteer crews. Canoes, paddles, and pfds provided by Kawishiwi Lodge or U.S. Forest Service.
Small Print: All BWAC trips are pet, alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, and firearms free. Participants are required to sign a liability release and photo video waiver, USFS self certification health form, and a confidential BWAC medical form prior to trip. Organizer reserves the right to deny participation to anyone for any or no reason.
