New to the Boundary Waters or don't have the time or equipment for a backpacking trip this fall? Join us on the weekend of October 25-27th for a day of trail clearing on the Powwow Trail! We will be carpooling up from the Twin Cities on Friday to stay in lodging near the trail Friday and Saturday night. We will spend a full day Saturday hiking and clearing. Our goal for this trip will be to clear any treefalls within the first four miles from the trailhead, in addition to removing all the encroaching brush along this section. This is a great way to get an introduction to the Boundary Waters and make some new friends, all while making a meaningful contribution to maintaining the Powwow Trail!
Here is the rough outline of the trip schedule:
Friday:
• Carpools (arranged by crew leader) will depart the Twin Cities Metro Area Friday afternoon.
• Possible stop for dinner and/or to meet up with Duluth area volunteers, then to condo lodging closer to the Powwow trailhead.
Saturday:
• Breakfast at condo
• 50 minute drive to BWAC entry point 86, the Powwow Hiking Trail.
• Safety talk and tool review given by crew leader before setting out to the work area.
• We will work in sub teams of three. There will be breaks as needed and lunch break, with a return to the cars between 4-6 pm. Safety is our number one goal.
• Depending on crew needs, we will return to the metro area either Saturday evening or spend a second night at the condo, to return Sunday morning.
