Trip #3 Eagle Mt Trail Clearing - Frost River Day Trip

  • Eagle Mountain Trailhead (map)

ABOUT
*** All participants must be pre-approved by the crew leaders before registering. ***

Have you been to the highest point in Minnesota? In 2023, BWAC accepted the opportunity from the USFS to maintain another trail in the beautiful Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness -the Eagle Mt/Brule Lake Hiking Trail. A Minnesota State Historic site, the Eagle Mountain Trail is a 3 1/2 mile hike to the top of Eagle Mountain with a stunning view -from 2,301 feet- of the Misquah Hills.

ITINERARY
Our mission is to remove any tree falls and brush crowding the Eagle Mountain Trail. Frost River is providing free van transportation for volunteers from their store and back. We will leave from the Frost River Store early Saturday morning at 5:30am on May 6th. Upon arrival at the trailhead, there will be a safety talk before we begin our hike. We will work using Katana Boys, Silky saws, and loppers. There will be breaks as needed as well as a lunch break. Safety is our #1 priority. We will return to the Frost River Store by 9pm.
WHAT TO EXPECT

Each participant will carry their own pack. What you will need to provide: Leather work gloves, sturdy hiking boots, extra dry socks, layered clothing, reliable rain gear, sunglasses, sunscreen, whistle, compass, TP, bug repellent (treat your clothing with Permethrin tick repellent prior to trip). Bring lunch, snacks, two quarts of water, and a “can-do” attitude. A more detailed list will be emailed to the crew members at a later date.

BWAC will provide: BWCAW permit for the group, safety glasses, tools, first aid kit, rain tarps, an Eagle Mt/Brule Lake Map, and BWAC swag as a thank you gift for each volunteer.

In addition, Frost River is offering free use of a hand crafted backpack for the trip to volunteers requesting one (inquire at Frost River). By investing a day of your time you will be creating a lasting value for hikers and help preserve this amazing trail for society.
