Plan on supporting Boundary Waters Advisory Committee’s (BWAC’s) mission of preserving and maintaining hiking trails in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) by attending a presentation at Midwest Mountaineering's 2022 Fall Outdoor Adventure EXPO by BWAC President, Rod Markin. UMN Hanson Hall, Room 105.
In 2011, the BWCAW’s 30+ mile Powwow Trail was utterly destroyed by the Pagami Creek fire. Campsites were obliterated; the trail’s tread burned beyond finding. Since the fire, BWAC's volunteers have been relentless in their tireless efforts to re-establish this historic and scenic trail. Rod will share a photo-log of before and after the fire, regrowth and recovery of the forest, and the efforts and successes of re-establishing and hiking the Powwow Trail.
Rod is a lifelong hiker/backpacker. He is a volunteer and current president and board member of the Boundary Waters Advisory Committee – a grassroots, volunteer organization that advocates for and clears hiking trails in the BWCAW.
